Continuing my theme of finding local craftsmen whether it be in Portugal or Cornwall, I attended the opening ‘A Procura de Um Corpo’ - In Search of a Body - at the Other Things Gallery in the Bom Sucesso Design Resort,Portugal recently. It is the first exhibition of rising Portuguese artist Diogo laCalle. Using charcoal, the artist uses not just the gallery walls but also the floor and ceiling to provoke a situation where the observer is immersed in the work. Its a great little gallery that showcases Portuguese artists and sculptors. Diogo’s work was wonderful and his exhibition runs until September 16th. I discovered these stunning sculptures named ‘Visitors’ whilst in Portugal, although they are the design of Belgian sculptor Guido Deleu and handcrafted in the studio of Selma Calheira, in Bahia, Brasil. Finished with only natural materials - clay and colour pigments.
